Bali Beads: What Are They ?
What? You have never heard of Bali Beads before? Well, after you have read this article, you will be a Bali Bead expert.
Let's start with where these beads are made.
You get two guesses and the first one doesn't count.
Obviously, Bali Beads are made in Bali, which lies between the islands of Java and Lombok and is one of the 17 thousand islands that make up the Indonesian Archipelago.
Bali Beads are a large part of the Bali people's beliefs, traditions and history. As the island has over recent years become a popular tourist resort, the demand and market for Bali Beads has increased and has therefore become much more worldwide than previously.
The metal smiths of Bali have been making beads for many hundreds of years and some readers may be surprised to know that the market in silver beads started as recently as the 1970's geared to the growing tourist market. Traditionally the Balinese people would wear similar style beads but in high-grade gold.
For centuries, Balinese artists have perfected their skills. Communities specialize in specific artistic traditions that are passed down from generation to generation. As a result, Bali silversmiths display superb technique and immense patience. Each bead is carefully made with exquisite detail. Every silver dot is individually placed, every surface patterned by hand. Each bead is a work of art. No two is exactly alike.
Bali beads can be used to create beautifully crafted beaded jewelry. The beads are often used to make bracelets, necklaces, earrings or piercing decorations.
The beads range in size and shape from small round beads to large cones and other shaped beads. A very effective pair of earrings can simply be made from a couple of silver Bali Beads matched with a lovely gemstone bead.
A true Bali Bead will be made of silver but fine silver is too soft for general use, so for jewelry making purposes about 7.5% of copper is mixed with 92.5% pure silver. This is called sterling silver. The purpose of mixing the metal is to get the hardness necessary yet still soft enough to create items into the shapes and sizes wanted.
Then there is Cast Bali Beads. A much quicker process, less labor intensive than the hand crafted beads. The use of hi-tech casting equipment produces a high quality product with quick production times.
There are also imitations. These are called Bali "style" beads, which may be a base metal or even plastic that has been plated. These are fine since you are aware of what you are buying and they are priced accordingly.
So the old axiom is still in affect let the buyer beware. Unless you are making a quick trip to Bali, you will be typically buying these beads by mail order or over the Internet. It would be in your best interest to know the supplier and if they have a good reputation. If you are buying via Ebay, does the sellers have good feedback or are there any suggestions or concerns about the quality of their goods?
These are all concerns we must have in buying anything over the Internet but you now know all the right questions to ask and you should be adorning your body with beautiful Bali Beads in the very near future. Poor 1 2 3 4 5 Best

Prepare When Traveling With Older Parents
Traveling with your parents can be a wonderful experience if you plan well ahead. Here are five things you must do to ensure that you and your parents will have a great vacation.
1. Ensure that the itinerary is not too fast paced.
Old folks tend to get tired easily and thus it is not advisable to include activities that are too strenuous. It is also not advisable to pack too many activities in the itinerary such that you and your parents have to rush from one place to another.
2. Ensure that everyone has ample sleep
Plan to have at least six to eight hours of sleep for you and your parents for each day of your vacation. Try to avoid having any more activities after 11 p.m. Prepare some hot water for your parents to soak their legs before bed time if there is a fair amount of walking in the day.
3. Have ample supply of their medication
If your parents are suffering from diabetes, asthma, hypertension, high cholesterol or any other illness, make sure you obtain ample supply of medication from their doctors to last for the whole trip. To ensure that you remember to bring the medication, create a checklist of things to bring and put their medication among the top five items on that list. As a safety precaution, ask them to carry a medical record of their illness and contact details in case you are not around when they need medical attention.
4. Healthy diet
Most old people do not take heavy meals and thus you need to plan for multiple light and healthy meals that are low on salts, oil and sugars but high in fiber. Always have a sandwich or high fiber biscuits in your bag in case they get hungry and there isn't a snack bar in the vicinity. Also make sure that you and your parents drink a lot of water to prevent dehydration.
5. Bring along a first aid travel pack.
Your first aid travel pack should contain medication for fever and diarrhea, cold symptoms and giddiness. It should also include a thermometer, tweezers, sharp scissors, safety pins, adhesive bandages, sterile gauze, adhesive tape and antiseptic wipes. While this list is not exhaustive, the stocks in the travel pack should be enough to cater to most conditions that require general first aid assistance. Do check the expiry date for those medications that you bring along to ensure that they are safe for consumption.
Traveling with your parents need not be a hassle as long as you plan ahead and take care of their needs. Involve them in all the activities along the way and remember to have fun!

A Vacation: Enjoy By Planning It Early!
The very first thing is to start early. Months early is best. Take it slow and easy. Start enjoying your vacation with the planning.
Having a relaxing vacation is the ideal way to forget all about the stress of our daily lives. It’s a chance to just sit back, relax and get our priorities back in order. For many of us, it’s also a great chance to reconnect with our loved ones. Whatever your reasons for needing to take a vacation, there are a few things you need to do to ensure that it goes exactly the way you envision.
The first thing you need to do when planning your perfect vacation is to figure out what you want to get out of it. Different people have different ways of relaxing. While one person might revel in a week of non-stop lying on the beach, another might find that idea incredibly boring. Plan a vacation based on what you enjoy doing and not what someone else thinks you should do. Look into the options that you think will help you relax.
Setting a budget for your trip is very important. You simply won’t be able to enjoy any holiday if you are constantly worrying about money. Spending more money than you can afford to on a vacation will only leave you feeling worried and guilty. Come up with a viable plan that will allow you to do the things you love without sacrificing your entire piggy bank. It will definitely be a relief not to have to come home and start working hard just to pay off your trip.

It will definitely be a relief not to have to come home and start working hard just to pay off your trip.
Sometimes we all need a little help. Don’t be afraid to ask for it. Enlist the help of a travel agent who knows about the industry. They can point out options and ideas you never even thought of. Not only that, but it helps to have someone else to make the calls and the arrangements. They’ll be able to help you if things start to go wrong. Their number one priority is your holiday happiness.
For many of us, taking a vacation isn’t a luxury, it’s a necessity! A vacation allows us the opportunity to relax and take a step back from the busy world around us. It’s very important for our physical, emotional and mental well-being. After all, if you don’t have something to look forward to during the year, you might just be inclined to have a breakdown! Plan your vacation properly and reality will seem just a tad sweeter when you get back to it.

Do Not Miss Whale Watching in Monterey Bay!
While staying or playing in California's Monterey Bay area, how about taking a Whale Watching tour? Monterey Bay is situated near the mid-section of California's coastline. The bay not only has a shallow shelf by the shore, it also has an enormous and deep submarine canyon.
These extremes in habitats permit a large variety of marine creatures to dwell there. By taking a whale watching tour, you may be able to see some of the marine life listed below which varies depending on the time of the year that you go.
Marine Life of Monterey Bay: Whales - There are Blue, Gray, Minke, Fin, Humpback, Beaked and Sperm Whales. Dolphins and Porpoises - There are the Common, Bottlenose, Pacific White-sided, Risso's, Orca (Killer Whale) and Northern Right Whale Dolphins.
Also, the Dall's and Harbor Porpoises. Pinnipeds - There are the Stellar and California Sea Lions. Also, the Northern Fur, Pacific Harbor and Northern Elephant Seals. Sea Otters - Southern Sea Otter Sea Turtles - Leatherback Sea Turtle Sea Birds - There are Pelicans, Loons, Terns, Black-footed Albatross and Gulls.
There are several tour companies operating in the bay. Besides price, check with each one to see what their particular whale watching tour offers. Ask what time or times of day they go out. Which type and size of vessel will you be on?
Does it have indoor and outdoor seating and heated cabins? Are there ample life jackets? Does it have a live or taped narrated tour? Will there be a marine biologist or naturalist on board to identify animals and answer questions? Can you bring snacks and beverages or are there some available on the boat?
Inquire about the length of the trip because tours can range anywhere from two to four hours. Find out about their cancellation policy. Will they cancel for poor weather conditions or under booked tours? To insure that your outing is a pleasant and comfortable trip it is important to do a little preparation.
Before your excursion, it is a good idea to purchase your tickets. This way you can book the day and time that you want and not have to worry about getting there and the trip being sold out.
Also be certain to arrive at least a half of an hour before departure so you will have enough time to check in. Since out on the ocean it can be breezy and chilly no matter what time of the year, be sure to put on warm garments in several layers.
It is recommended that you dress in long pants and wear flat closed-toed shoes with rubber soles. A wind and waterproof jacket or light raincoat, hat and gloves for the outermost layer is best should it start to rain.
If it gets hot later on, you can always remove a layer. For additional weather protection, remember to bring your sunscreen lotion, lip balm, seasick medication and sunglasses. You may also wish to bring a camera, video camera or binoculars for extra enjoyment.
While there is no guarantee that you will see any whales, the captain and crew with all their experience and knowledge, will do their best to find them.
Should your boat be lucky enough to locate a whale, please realize that you are not allowed to attempt to touch it or any other animal. This is for the animal's safety as well as yours. Whether or not you see a whale, you surely will view some of the wonderful marine life that makes their home in the bay or just visits at certain seasons of the year.
So make plans for an unforgettable day out at sea and have a whale of a time!

Awareness Is The Best Self-Defense Stance
The best way to defend yourself is to avoid putting yourself in dangerous situations to begin with. When out and about town or even in their own home, a person needs to be aware of what is going on around them and who is around them. Keep your eyes open, look ahead, and look behind you. Recognize a possible threat before it is close enough to bring you and others you care about, physical harm. Shopping malls, for example, are huge gathering places. Whether its social one on one, shopping or checking out the scenery, it's easy to forget what's around you, especially if children are involved.
Start defending yourself when you arrive at a shopping mall, before you ever exit your vehicle. You should park in a well-light area.Always park as close to the front of the building before you unlock and get out of your vehicle; determine the safest route to the building. Be certain to have all of your belongings gathered together and be ready to exit the vehicle as soon as you unlock the door.
Keep your keys in your hand, space the keys between your fingers so that if attacked, you can use this as a defense weapon. Identify possible threats as you walk and attempt to avoid when walking near them. The same rules apply when leaving a shopping mall. You must be aware of those standing around outside. Take note of people that may be watching you or individuals near your vehicle. Your instincts are powerful tools so don't ignore them.If you feel there may be a possible threat, go back inside and ask a security guard to escort you to your car.
Have your keys ready to open your vehicle. Once inside, immediately lock all doors. If you have an electronic key, use it only when you are standing next to the door. If it unlocks more than just the driver's door, avoid using it all together and open your car door the old fashioned way. You'll find that unlocking a car door with a key is in some ways a lot faster and easier than fiddling with keypads too. Keep car doors locked at all times while driving.
Today's newer vehicles often come standard with automatic door locks that engage when a vehicle reaches a certain speed. However, in low speed areas such as a mall or parking lot, door locks may not work at these speeds. So as a precaution manually lock your doors in low speed areas. You must be aware of all your surroundings at all times. Being aware of possible threats can help you avoid them and keep you and your loved ones safe. The information in this article comes from personal experience.
Personal Story of Recovery and My Zen Practice.
As I have mentioned I have practiced Zen for years. There are various stages to the practice as there is in any practice. The last stage is temed "mindfulness" and this is where we can observe the here and now. Basically, it is to the world arena as it is rather then how we think it is. The practice is to see without conditioning. Usually we observe with conditioning. That is we instantly think about what we see and compare it to other similair objects we have seen. For example, we see a flower for the first time. Immediately, we say something like "beautiful". This term comes from our memory of previously viewed flowers that were similiar.
When we do this we miss the original beauty of the first flower. The here and now is to see it the way it is without any conditioning. This takes practice. We begin to realize that this is all we have. This is the time to say "thank you", "I love you", "I am sorry". Or where ever we are to realize this is the most beautiful moment because it is all there is. This changes our perception of the world around us. This does occur naturally at times such as seeing a loved one "as if for the very first time."
Let me relate a personal story that is now almost a year old. I was living alone and quite comfortable when one day the the City Firemen told me I could not care for myself any more.
I was not aware of any problem but went with them to a rehab hospital. After several months in
the hospital I was moved to an assisted living facility. Here for unknown reasons I recovered my sense of consciousness. I recalled my Zen discipline of breathing and sitting up looking at the world. In a very short period of time I had several episodes of mindfullness.
Seeing my real situation and accepting it enabled me to start exercising and relaxing without the defeating period of depression and learned helplessness. Nor did I tear myself apart with being alone or wanting to quickly return to my former lifestyle. As a result I have recovered and making plans for an adaptable lifestyle. I am able to care for myself physically and mentally.
I credit my Zen practice combined with good medical care for my recovery.
I would love to have your comments.

WHY ARE THEY RAVING ABOUT THIS ONE?
The majority of people of people are saying "Absolutely Ingenious" "My only regret is that I waited so long to join!" "After years of trying other businesses, this is my first time I'm really making money." "It's amazing how Bob and Jayne have solved every single problem associated with building a home business."
The top two reasons for the phenomental success of those who have joined is quite simple.
1) Bob and Jayne, along with their trained staff, actually do the majority of the work for all of their members! This means you only need a few hours a month to sccceed. 2) Bob and Jayne and other members of your team regularly contribute "their" money to "your" business! This means you can stay within a budget you can afford, no matter how limited, and still succeed.
If you want to know more you can send me your mailing address and I will send full details of how you can get started. We have a 24 page booklet that explains everything. I promise that the only mailing you will get from me will be this one postcard. My Email address is datasan6@gmail.com Please do not click. Use the address on your Email system. I have to make corrections to enable clicking. Thanks.

The Little Incident That Lasted A Lifetime
I just about a person who spoke of kindness and used the word karma. This brought memories of when I first heard the term. I was in the Army Special Forces in Japan. I made missions to Viet Nam, Asia and the Middle East. One day while in a judo class in Tokyo I had just thrown by my instuctor for the first time. Of course, I was standing there all smug. An older man, perhaps 79 or in his 80s with a black kimono and a red slash around his waist walked towards me. No smile or eye contact, he just walked up to me and threw me and kept on walking. I am gasping for air asking my instructor "who is that?" He replied that he was a 10th degree belt holder in judo and a Zen master.
Well, I wanted to know more about him and the term Zen Master explained to me. I quickly found out that Zen was a school of Buddhism that had a special type of mediatation that was not a mediatation at all. Also, that the followers of Buddha did not believe in killing. That last element really hit me. Is there really a group of people who do not kill and think it is wrong to do so. I had a very difficult time with that fact. The more I investigated, the more it effected me.
They truely believe that "we are one" so no killing of bugs, animals or humans.
Not only that but there was a large international movement some 2500 years ago where
Buddhist walked all over Asia spreading the word. Many soldiers laid down their spears and swords and became monks. Tibet had one of the greatest armies on earth but
the majority became monks. People all over Asia stopped eating meat. As far West as
the Greeks where the King accepted Buddha.
Well, my story is a very personal one. I was a highly trained soldier who every day trained others in the art of killing. I was sent here and there to Viet Nam and the Cold War. This actually changed my life and my attitude towards life. Oh no, I did not resign as I could have but I suffered in the effort to make peace with myself.
I practiced Zen and attended a nearby monastery for lessons. It became a life time practice and I feel that it saved my life several times. Of course, this story is somewhat superficial due to time and space. Many years later, after a prolonged illness my Zen practice restored me to health. Thanks for listening and I welcome your comments. If you haven't yet go look at my profile as in a way it is part of the story.

US military accused of harboring fundamentalism
http://mparent7777-2.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 02/ us-military-accused-of-harboring.html
by Roland Lloyd Parry Thu Feb 14, 9:40 AM ET Since his last combat deployment in Iraq, Jeremy Hall has had a rough time, getting shoved and threatened by his fellow soldiers. The trouble started there when he would not pray in the mess hall. "A senior ranking staff sergeant told me to leave and sit somewhere else because I refused to pray," Hall, a 23-year-old US army specialist, told AFP. Later, Hall was confronted by a major for holding an authorized meeting of "atheists and freethinkers" on his base. The officer threatened to discipline him and block his re-enlistment.

As many of you know I had a career in the Army and this sort of thing began very early and now has grown. This sort of power and control has nothing to do with basic
discipline and tends to lower morale. It is hoped that a new adminstation in DC will investigate this as it has grown and will interfere with the strength of the military. As a citizen be alert and in touch with your representives.

Do Not Get Mad Get A Solution!
We all go through periods of adversity and suffering. Some ofthem are mild and some are life changing. Problems are simply apart of life, and while we can't eliminate adversity, we canlearn how to cope with it. Obstacles do not have to be insurmountable roadblocks on thepathway to success or happiness. They are simply a part of life.Problems are generally an indication that we have something tolearn. When everything is going wrong and the world feels like it isfalling apart, anger is normally the first reaction. But this isthe worst thing we can do. Losing our temper will rarely achievethe desired result. More often than not, losing our temper does nothing more thanmake a bad situation worse.
The reality is that we don't reallylose our temper, it's more like we turn our temper loose. Whenever life acts, we respond, and these responses are seldomplanned. Reacting on impulse when things go wrong we tend to lashout at anything or anyone that has the misfortune of being close. This doesn't have to be the case. And our chance of resolving anissue is much greater if we keep from getting angry. While we may not be responsible for everything that happens tous, we are responsible for how we react. The mind is a very powerful tool, and if used properly, can be avery strong positive force in times of trouble. But in order forthe mind to be its most productive, it must first be calm.
The ability to choose our thoughts, to THINK what we want, iswhat gives us the power to determine our attitude and perspectivewhen approaching a problem. If we allow anger, despair and frustration to consume us, it'slike a runaway train gathering steam and threatening to derail. The FIRST thing to do is quit feeding the fire. As our initialanger passes, our perspective begins to change. Once our temper is under control, we begin attracting solutions, rather than allowing anger and frustration to compound ourproblems. All of us have an inner voice that talks to us. Pay closeattention to this voice because it has the power to make anysituation better or worse. This inner voice is the voice of our subconscious mind and willwork for or against us with equal ease. Once anger andfrustration are removed from the equation, the subconscious mindis free to help guide us toward a solution if we listen. Our subconscious mind is the ultimate information filter, but itwill provide its most useful solutions only when we are quiet.
The subconscious is an obedient and able servant once it knows which direction we want to go. Don't shy away from problems. Sometimes the best way to informthe subconscious mind that we need a creative solution is toexperience frustration in our conscious mind. By using the conscious mind to define and clarify the problem, weleave it to the subconscious mind to guide our actions in solvingit. When the subconscious is jogged by need, visualization orrelaxation, it will release back to the conscious mind necessaryand helpful information. Thoughts and emotions act as magnets attracting similar thoughtsand emotions. When we approach our problems with the right attitude and havethings in perspective, it will appear as though our problems begin to solve themselves.

How To Find Time For You!
In this hectic world that we live in, it can be hard to find time to do the things that you really enjoy. Sometimes it may seem like all you ever get done is chores, going to work and performing tasks for other people. But while these things can take up an overwhelming portion of your time, it is extremely important that you find time for yourself as well. But how can you find time for yourself when there are already so many other demands for your time? Finding time for you is a matter of setting priorities. If you don't carve out time from yourday to do things you enjoy to relax, you just simply won't get to do it at all. And if youallow it to happen, other people's wants and needs will take all of your time and energy until there is nothing left over for you.
The first step to making yourself a priority is to schedule time each and every day for activities that you enjoy. You don't have to schedule hours; 15 to 20 minutes is just fine if that is all you can spare. Once you have scheduled some alone time, do not let anything else interrupt it. View it as you would an appointment with a doctor or a dinner date with a trustedfriend. When other demands for your time arise, don't be afraid to say that you have plans. Youwouldn't allow an errand that your sister wants you to run take precedence over a work-related meeting; don't let it take precedence over your time for yourself either. Once you have scheduled an appointment with yourself, make sure that your family knows that youwill not be available during this time. If you have young children, you can lock yourself inyour bedroom and put a sign on the door that says how long you will be gone.
Ask your partnerto keep the children occupied during this time with the promise that you will do the same forhim/her. If your family is older, tell them under no circumstances are you to be disturbed. Carving out time for yourself means that you will have to learn to say no. You might have toignore phone calls and you will probably have to let some responsibilities and tasks slide. This is where delegation comes in handy. Let the kids clean the kitchen while you take a hotbath after dinner. Let your brother run the errand for your sister. Just don't let someone else steal that precious time away from you.
Don't be fooled into thinking that there won't be circumstances that arise that will tempt you to forget about the time that you promised yourself. There will always be obstacles, but it is how you handle these obstacles that make the difference in the end. If you always give intopressure, then people around you will learn that they can get you to do what they want with alittle bit of pressure. Be firm, be consistent; they will get the hint and leave you alone.
How To Have Better Solutions
Does the quantity of your efforts match the quality of the results you get? Do you wish that you could get better results? There is one simple and effective way that anyone can use to get better results without it costing a single cent.
Just ask better questions!
You can choose to ask yourself if you are happy. There are times when the answer will be "yes" as you can feel a surge of joy and confidence inside you when things have gone well. There are times when your answer will be "no" if you had a bad day, and your confidence has taken a beating. If your answer was "no", you get into a worst state than before you asked yourself the question.
Ask a better question. Ask yourself what you can be happy about. When most people ask themselves this question, they think of the things that they normally take for granted. By doing this, you can shift yourself to a more resourceful state and get out of the "poor me" state which will sap your energy.
What about at work where somehow you are not getting the recognition and the monetary rewards? You can ask yourself as to why your boss does not recognize your capabilities and reward accordingly. You will get answers to why you got a bad boss and in most instances you can do little or nothing to change that.
A better and more basic question may be to ask yourself what is it that you need to deliver to get the recognition and rewards. Sometimes, this question may show that you are missing some elements in delivering on the job. Tough pill to swallow but it is easier if you discover it yourself rather than having the boss pointing it out to you.
If you cannot answer the question yourself, ask your boss how you are doing on the job. You do not have to wait for the annual appraisal for him or her to tell you, by which time it is too late.
As you discuss with your boss, if the answers are not clear enough for you to act on, ask better questions. If for example, he says that your report is not detailed enough, you can ask him what else might be required to make it sufficiently detailed.
Remember that if you volunteer to ask these questions, you will be seen as taking initiative. However, if the boss pulled you up for a badly done job, and you ask the same questions, he or she will see it as being challenged. So, be proactive whenever possible.
Now, if you find that your work is good and yet you are not getting recognized, you can either gripe about it or ask yourself another question like should you look for another job? If the answer is "no", then next will be to question yourself as to the value of staying on. It could be that the learning experience is valuable enough for you to stay on for a while.
Asking better questions applies to any aspect of life. The trick is in asking questions that will give you answers that will solve your problems, not create bigger problems.
If you asked yourself why you are sad or why you are doing a bad job of whatever it is you are doing, you will get answers as to what makes you sad or do a bad job. Those are not the actions you want to take. Ask questions that will give you actions to achieve better results.
You may argue that if you know what you should not do, the opposite is what you should do. Sounds logical! The only problem is that your brain absorbs and attracts the negatives if that is what you are primarily feeding it. You then start attracting negative elements. So, it is crucial that your answers are the positive ones that you want to act on.
Does this apply when you are at social gatherings? Most definitely!
A typical question will be "how are you?" and the person replies "fine, thank you" and that ends the conversation. Better questions must involve something that the person with whom you are speaking knows a lot about.
Everyone knows about him or herself well. So, if you ask a question like "what was the last enjoyable movie that you watched" followed by "what was it about the movie that was enjoyable," the chances are this person will be able to talk about it. Or it could be "did you read any good books recently" and "what was good about that book?"
The trick is in just remembering one thing. If you do not like the result you are getting, and you are frustrated, ask a question that will get you out of the frustrated state.
You will be amazed at the changes you will see in yourself, when you start asking better questions.
