Just a note. Yes, the training facilities for Zen have moved West and spread across the USA. However, you do not have to become a monk nor a nun to learn, practice and bnefit. There are many that practice at home. If possible, take some training from a Center near you. If not, there are books and tapes. The Mountain Monastery in New york State is a great resource and there are others. Remember, change your mind and you will change your life.
Simply put I hated school and left a loving home to escape the pressure. I managed to find a home in the US Army where I remained for many years. Passed the GED, attained a BA and went to graduate school. Learned to love learning. Located in Asia with my Sp Ops home base in Japan.
